PRIEMERE ACADEMY STUDENT WINS 2016 NATIONAL CODING COMPETITION ORGANISED BY NITDA

HOD ICT and Vocational Services, School Principal, TIMOTHY ANDEYANTSO, the HONOURABLE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS (BARR. ADEBAYO SHITTU), Head of Learning at the award ceremony.

On the 8th of September 2016, Premiere Academy was in the spotlight as one of our students, Timothy Andeyantso an SS1 students, received the prize as the winner of the prestigious National Coding Training and Talent Search for School Children, organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation. The award ceremony was well attended by representatives from several schools and the prizes were awarded by the Honourable Minister of Communications Barrister Adebayo Shittu. The event also attracted widespread media attention from several newspapers and NTA. As part of the accolade and as fitting recognition for his hard work in the area of technology, Timothy (along with student delegates from 183 countries) will be  representing Nigeria at the annual Microsoft Imagine Cup competition to be held later this year in the USA.  The theme of this competition, as the title implies, will be “Imagine a world where technology helps to solve the toughest problems.”

This is a major achievement by Timothy and we have every reason to be proud of him and what he has demonstrated in terms of the potential of our young people to be able to compete at the very cutting edge of global technological development. It is hoped that this will inspire other students and young people to engage with technology in more focused way—especially in the areas of software coding and programming. Well done Timothy!

The competition was keenly contested by kids in various secondary schools across Nigeria with the aim of teaching, mentoring and transforming them into future software programmers and IT Entreprenuers who can, in the near furture, impact society and add value to the world at large through innovation and ingenuity in the IT sector.
