Student excursion to NiMet for 2017 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction

It was an exciting day as the Geography students of Premiere Academy attended the annual lecture at the National Meteorological Agency  

(NiMet) for the SEASONAL RAINFALL PREDICTION (SRP), 2017.  The programme was organized to highlight and emphasize on the SRP for the year, and at the same time discussing its influence (positive and negative implications) on Sustainable Development Goals and Socio-Economic Development.The NiMet, whose main objective is to make accurate predictions on weather conditions for the Nigerian Aviation Industry, had in attendance for the lecture; Chairman Senate Committee on Avaition, USAID – Markets II, Katsina State Government, BATNF and IFAD – CASP, all giving their contributions and advice on the matters concerning the implications of the SRP.

The keynote address was given by the Minister of State (Aviation) , Senator Hadi Sirika, which was centred on ‘Unveiling of the 2017 SRP’ where he highlighted the past ‘Release of the 2016 Climate Review Bulletin’ in order to update the attendees of the previous SRP and its accuracy. The programme recorded its peak moment when the recently appointed Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof Sani Abubakar Marshi, who succeeded Dr Anthony Anuforom, gave a captivating lecture on the main topic of the day. 

The attendees expressed their appreciation of the lecture and Premiere Academy Geography students confirmed their willingness to study further and dig deeper into more research in geography as it affects environmental development goals. The closing remarks were given by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation Alhaji Sabiu Zakari, who thanked all invited guests and dignitaries for a successfulprogramme.
